Earth and Space Exploration Awards are awarded to projects and people who have advanced our understanding of the link between the environment and space exploration. The awards were begun in 2004. They are given infrequently to projects that have deepened our understanding of the Earth by exploring space or that have advanced the cause of a space-faring civilization through the study of the Earth. These awards are separate from the annual Earth and Space Awards.

The awards are made from Blue Eyes granite. This special granite has quartz inclusions that cause it to reflect patches of stunning bright blue from its surface. The granite is mined at a secret quarry in northern Canada that is under snow for 10 months in the year. The base of the trophy is made from York limestone. This same stone was used to build York Cathedral in England in 1220.
